Tacloban Councilor Hon. Raymund Romualdez has tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend, Raissa Tan. The couple chose to celebrate their matrimony exclusively with significant people in their lives.
The wedding was attended only by the closest friends and families of the couple including Philippine President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, who are also among the couple’s handpicked ninongs and ninangs along with House Speaker Martin Romualdez and wife Congresswoman Yedda Marie Romualdez.
The father of the groom, Tacloban City Mayor Hon. Alfred Romualdez, expressed his admiration and support for the couple. He thanked Rai for her unwavering support for Raymund and all his causes and advocacies— from founding Hiraya, a non-profit organization that supports the youth, the environment, and sports development, to fulfilling all his duties as a public servant.
Unbeknownst to many, Raymund Romualdez serves in both the legislative and executive branches of the government. He is currently the Chairman of Barangay 88, a member of Tacloban City Council, and president of the Liga ng mga Barangay of Tacloban and the entire Region 8.
As the president of Liga ng mga Barangay Tacloban and Region 8 Chapter, he actively provides essential health services and distributes aid like wheelchairs and water pumps to indigent families through project BARANGAYAN in Tacloban City. To further strengthen barangay ties regionally and promote collaboration among provincial chapter presidents in Region VIII, he regularly conducts Liga General and Regional Assemblies.
As a councilor, he successfully passed resolutions improving infrastructure and resolving local conflicts, promoting peace and order in the city of Tacloban. Additionally, as chairman of Barangay 88, he initiated various community projects including solar street lights, rehabilitation projects, reforestation, water distributions, and increased medical assistance. Hiraya Tacloban, a non-profit organization he founded focuses on youth and education programs, environmental preservation, and sports development.
In the recently concluded NATIONAL RESCUE JAMBOREE 2024, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) presented the “RAYMUND ROMUALDEZ DISASTER PREPAREDNESS PILLAR AWARD”, an embodiment of disaster preparedness in terms of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery and a tribute to Raymund’s effective contributions to the disaster relief response, recovery, and continuous development of Tacloban City more than a decade after the onslaught of typhoon Yolanda.
On the other hand, Rai is a person of passion. She is an entrepreneur who promotes the ecotourism of the region, the latest addition to her resorts and hotels is a surfing school at Calicoan, Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Despite her background, she keeps herself grounded and goes out of her way to promote tourism in East Visayas all while being in support of Raymund and his projects for Tacloban.
While the couple are excited about their plans to start a family, their primary focus right now is on continuing their efforts to support and uplift Tacloban and its people. Their wedding symbolizes not only their love for each other but also their shared dedication to serving others. This significant event in their lives is a reflection of their commitment to making a positive impact on the people of Tacloban.
