Featuring Melanio C. Acosta IV and Dra. Katrina Marie F. Mendoza

At first, Mel and Kai’s love story sounded like a classic doctor-meets-doctor plot. Two hardworking residents, long hospital shifts, and the kind of exhaustion only medicine can explain. But their beginning had its own twist. Kai, the romantic “princessy” type who once imagined meeting her prince charming in a record store, found him instead in the hospital’s records section. Very on-brand, honestly.

They were different in many ways. Kai loved the little cinematic details of life, while Mel was practical, straightforward, and grounded. But somewhere between residency, lockdown, and the start of a global pandemic, they discovered their first shared language: punk rock and emo music. Fall Out Boy, Blink-182, and all the songs that made growing up feel dramatic in the best way became part of their soundtrack.

After years of choosing each other through long distance, Milan, Dubai, fellowship, training, and different time zones, Mel came home to a new milestone: a contract signing for his role as Sports Orthopaedic physician for a professional basketball team. In that meaningful moment, he turned to Kai and said, “Hey boo, our dreams are slowly coming true. I guess that leads us to my next dream.” Then he asked her to marry him. No grand setup. No spectacle. Just love, timing, and a yes that came easily.

On May 23, 2026, their story arrived at the Parish and Archdiocesan Shrine of San Isidro Labrador in Cuenca, Batangas. The ceremony was simple, sincere, and deeply emotional. The long aisle was filled with the people who mattered most, all present to witness the beginning of their forever.

Their reception at Sefriya Grand carried the vibe of “Under the Tuscan Sun,” a personal nod to Mel’s Italy training and Kai’s summer-girl heart. Every detail felt so Mel and Kai-coded: all-white florals, candlelit tables, a mimosa bar, monogrammed wine glasses, a Mia Maison perfume bar, and Dashboard Confessional lyrics on their wedding banner.

The night was joyful from the jump. Friends opened the grand entrance with choreographed performances, followed by Kai and Mel’s staircase moment set to Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars. Later, guests danced to Eraserheads, The Cure, and Zedd like bedtime did not exist.

For Kai and Mel, the day felt “aligned.” Not just beautiful, but warm, intentional, and God-given, proof that every unexpected turn had led exactly where it was meant to.
