Featuring Jaime Joel Jimenez and Denise Villanueva

Before their love took center stage, Denise and Jaime’s story unfolded quietly, almost imperceptibly. It began at a Mexican tequila bar before the pandemic, where Jaime, attending as a plus one, briefly met Denise at a birthday party he had quite literally crashed. There were introductions and polite smiles, but nothing that hinted at what was to come.

Nearly two years later, fate nudged them again, this time over a quiet game of Rummikub in a coffee shop. Denise won all three rounds, and while Jaime insists that sparks flew, Denise remembers it differently, recalling how she barely said more than a handful of words.

Still, something lingered. Months later, their first real date at Mecha Uma, followed by drinks at Lit Manila, was filled with laughter, easy conversation, and an uncanny coincidence: both arrived in white button-downs and jeans.

“I thought about taking a photo,” Jaime admits, “but I didn’t want to seem too forward. I regret it.”

Their relationship deepened in the most unexpected way, both secretly applying for MBAs in the United States, only revealing it to each other just before their acceptance. It felt serendipitous, almost fated.

As Jaime shares, “We enjoy the same things…food, movies, board games. We can spend hours just being together, doing nothing and everything at the same time.”

That same sense of timing guided Jaime when he chose May 12 in Philadelphia to propose. It was the only day their families would be together before life pulled them in different directions again. At their favorite restaurant, surrounded by loved ones, he asked Denise to spend forever with him, and she said yes.

But it was on their wedding day in Manila where their story truly came alive.

Set in the historic San Agustin Church, the ceremony felt deeply personal. Guests arrived in tuxedos and long gowns, a rare and heartfelt gesture that moved the couple. The church breathed with intention. It was airy, alive, and filled with meaning.

As Jaime stood at the altar, he recalls, “I couldn’t hold back the tears when I saw Denise. She’s never looked more radiant.”

Denise walked down an aisle inspired by her quiet walks in Boston, while Princess Leia’s theme softly played, a subtle nod to their shared love for storytelling and imagination.

When they finally stood together, emotions overflowed, not just between them, but among their families as well.

The celebration that followed was just as intentional. A marching band led guests through Intramuros, ushering them into a reception that felt like stepping into another world, warm, textured, and inspired by their love for Star Wars.

Every detail reflected who they were: from blind box giveaways to a cocktail hour cake cutting so every guest could witness the moment up close.

Looking back, the couple describes their wedding in one word: “liminal.” It was a space suspended in time, where loved ones gathered from across the world to celebrate not just a union, but a journey.

As they stepped out of the church hand in hand, greeted by a sea of smiling faces, it felt like one immense embrace.

“It was our way of saying thank you,” they shared. “And for one fleeting moment, we got to hold everyone we love in the same world we built together.”
