Featuring Beatriz Datangel Rodgers and Charity Datangel Rodgers
Beatriz and Charity’s love story began in 2019, sparked by a serendipitous online match that blossomed into a profound connection. Unable to meet immediately due to busy schedules, they shared their first in-person encounter at a drag show in San Francisco’s vibrant SOMA district. From that moment, their journey was marked by laughter, exploration, and a shared passion for art and community.

They quickly became each other’s guides through life, traversing cities and continents, embracing San Francisco, Memphis/Collierville, TN, and the vibrant Manila Metro as their homes. Together, they thrived both personally and professionally, united by their commitment to community and nonprofit development.

In a testament to their love’s breadth, Beatriz and Charity legally married under the iconic rotunda of San Francisco City Hall. However, their hearts pulled them to Manila for a destination celebration—a place dear to Beatriz, symbolizing her second home and a vibrant LGBTQIA+ community. Though same-sex marriage is not yet legal in the Philippines, their celebration there was an affirmation of their identity and a tribute to the country’s rich culture.

Their wedding was a fusion of tropical elegance and disco flair, blending Filipiniana elements with unabashed queerness. The venue shimmered with natural textures and lush greenery, adorned with modern Filipiniana-inspired decor that celebrated their heritage and personal style. From drag queen performances—a homage to their first date—to a five-course Filipino tasting menu, every detail reflected their journey and values.

The celebration honored LGBTQIA+ culture with table names inspired by favorite queer bars and support for local LGBTQIA+ nonprofits instead of traditional gifts. The attire, designed by Ternocon finalist Koko Gonzales of Light Shine White, merged traditional Filipino formalwear with contemporary aesthetics, embodying their unique blend of tradition and modernity.

“The best host ever, Steffi Lucero!, Telephone Booth Audio Guest Book, Live leather stamping bar (with choice of a variety of luggage tags, card organizers and toiletry bags in various colors), Elite drag performances, DJ Mike Lavarez set. Simply put, the amazing food, joyful atmosphere, and the genuine warmth of everyone made the celebration truly unforgettable.”, shares Beatriz.
“The electrifying performances by Lady Morgana, Dejaa, and Bombading truly elevated the reception, leaving lasting memories for everyone involved.”, she adds.

From the intimate vow exchange to the exuberant dance party with electrifying drag performances, every moment resonated with love, joy, and cultural pride. The night was punctuated by spontaneous gestures of love—from distant friends sending drinks to heartfelt performances by drag queens—that underscored the profound sense of community and camaraderie.

Their wedding was a celebration of identity and love, crafted around their shared values and experiences. It eschewed traditional norms in favor of authenticity and inclusivity, creating an experience that was uniquely theirs—a true reflection of their journey, their love, and their unwavering commitment to each other.

Through an elegant blend of luxury and personal expression, Beatriz and Charity created a wedding that was a testament to their love, their heritage, and their vibrant identities. It was not just a celebration of union but a joyous affirmation of their journey together—a celebration that embraced their queerness, honored their roots, and welcomed all into their world of love and acceptance.
