From the very start, Kit and Jennine envisioned a ceremony that leaned toward a refined maximalism, never overwhelming, but deeply considered.
“We didn’t want to go overboard, but we were meticulous about getting the small details right,” Jennine shared.
Their outfits reflected this perfectly: Kit wore a teal suit with a subtle dragon crawling along the sleeve, while Jennine donned delicate phoenix details on her arm scarves.
“At the end of the day, we needed to look like an inseparable pair,” Kit added, capturing the essence of their visual harmony.
As the ceremony unfolded, respect for tradition took center stage. The couple honored the customary rites, including the symbolic act of “meeting” for the first time.
“To us, the most important thing was to pay respect to our elders and keep the ceremony alive,” Jennine explained. While they preserved these meaningful practices, they also made thoughtful updates for their guests.
Instead of the usual boxed giveaways, they opted for elegant macarons inspired by traditional flavors, an approachable yet meaningful twist.
Food, as always in Chinese engagements, carried deep symbolism. Guests were treated to staples like misua and whole steamed fish, representing long life and abundance. Yet for Jennine, one dish stood out with a personal touch: “EDSA Shang’s siomai means joy more than anything else,” she said with a smile.
The celebration became even more vibrant with the couple’s special request for guests to arrive in Chinese-inspired attire. From intricate qipaos to modern interpretations, the room transformed into a visual feast.
“It made everyone feel like an integral part of the ceremony,” Kit shared. The energy was beautifully captured in photos, preserving both style and sentiment.
One of the most memorable moments came with a touch of playful urgency, the rush to place the engagement ring before the auspicious deadline.
“It was pretty fun, amidst all the delays,” Jennine recalled. “It just goes to show how much we were following tradition first and foremost.”
