Bridal Beauty: Paul Nebres Simplifies the Intricacies of an Updo

Celebrity hairstylist Paul Nebres who does the hair of Nadine Lustre, Sarah Lahbati, and Anne Curtis to name a few, has a secret obsession with intricate updos for his brides.

“Pinterest hair is so in this year: messy updos and braids!”

In choosing the hairstyle you want to pull off on your wedding day, Paul tells us that the first thing brides should consider is the weather because the last thing you want to happen is to be sweating too much under your veil and getting worried if your hair is still intact. Updos are more manageable and carefree.

The second thing brides need to consider is the shape of your face and which hairstyle will best compliment it. Your makeup will do wonders to your face, but the perfect hairstyle will put your whole look together.

“I always collaborate and meet halfway with my brides on their chosen hairstyle. I don’t want brides to look so different on their wedding day that some of their guests do not recognise them, I believe that every bride is already beautiful and we have been given the privilege to enhance their beauty on their big day.”

Before the big day, here is Paul’s to-do list for brides who want to achieve the hairstyle of their dreams:

  1. Make sure that your hair is cut layered. This makes it more manageable and adaptable to your hair goals. Also, make sure the length does not go higher than your shoulders.
  2. If you have colored hair, retouch your hair color 1 week before the wedding. Hair regrowth will look bad, especially in an updo.
  3. Don’t do any hair treatments like rebonding, keratin or perming.
  4. Don’t use conditioner on the day of the wedding. Doing so would make your hair look greasy and won’t make your curls last very long.
  5. Lastly, pick the right size and design of the hair accessories you wish to use.
