Featuring Tedrick Yu and Bernardine Ngwe
Tedrick and Bernardine’s love story is a modern-day fairytale, beginning with a serendipitous connection and blossoming into a joyful celebration of commitment. Their journey started on Facebook, where Bernardine harbored a crush on Tedrick for seven years. Fate then intervened during Chinese New Year when they happened to bump into each other at a restaurant. Their connection was undeniable, leading them to match on Tinder and start dating. Their first date was an instant hit, feeling warm and familiar, like a reunion of old friends.
The pandemic tested their relationship with lockdowns and restrictions, but it also added a nostalgic twist to their courtship, reminiscent of high school days spent texting and chatting. As the world gradually reopened, their bond grew stronger, culminating in a Christmas proposal in 2022. Tedrick had meticulously set up a special surprise in his family’s condo unit, transforming it into a romantic engagement scene. As Bernardine said yes, both their families, who had been waiting downstairs, joined in the celebration. The evening was filled with joy, culminating in a hearty dinner and drinks with close friends and family at a nearby restaurant.
The couple’s wedding, held on March 9, 2024—the same day they first met—was a celebration of their love and the many serendipitous moments of their relationship. Bernardine, a fashion designer, infused the wedding with a Spring theme, blending teal, old rose, gold, rose gold, and peach. She designed every garment, from her gown to the entourage outfits, inspired by skyscraper architecture and origami.
The ceremony was personalized with a lively performance of “Lucky” by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat, reflecting their playful nature. Their self-choreographed dance, a fast waltz with dynamic moves, captivated their guests. Emotional speeches from family and friends, along with heartfelt vows, added depth to the celebration.
A memorable highlight was the unplanned drama of windy weather, which added a striking backdrop to their outdoor photos. The reception featured vibrant food and unique dragon ornaments, gifted by a family friend, symbolizing the Year of the Dragon. The Grand Raffle game, full of humorous twists, engaged guests and showcased the couple’s creativity and thoughtfulness. Overall, their wedding was a unique blend of personal touches, shared passions, and joyful celebration, reflecting their deep connection and love.
