Featuring John and Elyn San Juan | As told by sister and coordinator Rhed Sarmiento
Celebrating a remarkable chapter in their life’s journey, John and Elyn San Juan recently reaffirmed their commitment to each other as they commemorated their 25th anniversary together. Creating an unforgettable wedding experience proved to be a significant challenge, considering the celebration was a surprise arrangement.
“Ang alam lang ni Ate, may host, gown and makeup, yun na! The rest hindi na nya alam. Alam nya sa basketball court ang reception”, shares Rhed.
Being among the most sought-after event specialists in the country, Rhed’s immediate impulse was to organize this event as a heartfelt gift for her sister.
“When my sister mentioned the idea of renewing their vows—for 25 years—there was an inherent pressure on me because being the sole sister and a wedding planner, I naturally wanted to give her everything. Considering all the efforts she had put into our relationship, I felt the urge to reciprocate. I believe this is the perfect opportunity to repay my sister for being my rock,” Rhed articulates, fueled by her profound wish to return the kindness to her elder sister, Len.
Elyn, who crossed paths with John in 1996 and married him in 1997 at the tender ages of 20 and 18, respectively, expressed immense gratitude for Rhed, whom she fondly describes as “incredibly generous.” Despite Elyn sacrificing her educational pursuits for her younger sister, Rhed never once neglected her. “Before our mom passed away—I was with Mom before she passed—she told me, ‘Len, never neglect your sister.’ I want to tell Mom, ‘Mommy, my sister never neglected me.’ She always supported me. She wanted nothing but the best for me, always,” recounts Elyn.
Len had envisioned a modest celebration—a single long table, delightful food shared among friends and family. However, Rhed had grander aspirations. Her aim was to orchestrate the most extraordinary wedding her sister could ever imagine.
“It’s just the two of us now because our mom left when I was 11 and she was graduating high school. My sister Len started college but didn’t finish because she had to work to support my education,” Rhed reflects, her voice trembling. “So now, I want to give her everything, although I can’t change the past. I am immensely grateful for everything she has done. This is just one way of repaying my sister for all she has done for us, for everything we’ve been through.”
The evening was nothing short of perfection! Every supplier contributed to crafting a dream wedding that any bride would cherish forever. It stood as a true testament not only to the enduring love shared between John and Elyn but also to the profound bond between sisters.
