Featuring Atty. Denmark G. Bocalan and Atty. Jasmin M. Soliven
When Denmark and Jasmin first crossed paths in law school, they weren’t exactly a match made in heaven—or so they thought. Denmark found Jasmin mataray (intimidating) and masungit (grumpy), while Jasmin thought Denmark was isip-bata (childish), makulit (persistently playful), and downright annoying. Yet, fate had a sense of humor.
Their turning point came during an Environmental Law class when Denmark helpfully suggested a parking spot for Jasmin. Little did she know, it was illegal. Jasmin’s car got towed from Pasay to Marikina, leading to a hefty fine. What could have been a nightmare became a spark as the incident turned into a running joke between them, breaking the ice and paving the way for a friendship that deepened into love.
Fast forward to 2023: Denmark proposed at the picturesque Osaka Castle in Japan. While romantic, the moment was filled with their trademark humor—Denmark gave away too many hints and even knelt on uncomfortable rocks. It was perfectly them: sweet, funny, and memorable.
A Wedding Full of Meaning
Their wedding was a celebration of their love story, reflected in every thoughtful detail. The theme, inspired by Jasmin’s sapphire engagement ring, featured navy blue, white, and gold tones. These colors symbolized their individuality and their fresh start together.
The ceremony was held at the serene Chapel on the Hill, where Jasmin had reflected on her faith in past Holy Week retreats. Its circular seating arrangement allowed their loved ones to surround them, creating an intimate and inclusive atmosphere.
Personal touches defined the day. Their bridal car? The same one that had been towed, marking the hilarious start of their story. For sponsors, they chose commissioned paintings by Denmark’s uncle, featuring serene landscapes that reflected their shared love for calm and beauty. Souvenirs of fruit wines and scented candles nodded to their favorite date nights and Jasmin’s love for cozy scents.
A Celebration with Heart
The reception was anything but typical. Instead of a rigid program, the couple opted for a laid-back, interactive vibe. Their cocktail hour featured their favorite comfort foods, including Pinoy street food and burgers, accompanied by house music to set a relaxed tone. They shortened the reception program, skipping traditional garter and bouquet tosses. Instead, Jasmin gifted her bouquet to her mother—a heartfelt gesture that resonated with many.
“Even the souvenirs were meaningful. We gave fruit wines, a nod to
our casual date nights, and scented candles because Jasmin loves them.
These little details reflected who we are as a couple and made our
guests feel like they were part of our story.”, exclaims Jasmin.
Even the unexpected rain couldn’t dampen the day. It added a poetic touch, symbolizing the resilience of love through life’s storms.
A Day to Remember
The couple’s favorite moments were the ones filled with emotion and connection. From the officiator’s jokes during the ceremony to heartfelt speeches from their parents, every moment was steeped in warmth. A slideshow of their childhoods during the parent dances brought tears and laughter, grounding the celebration in gratitude and love.
The after-party was the perfect finale, with ballroom dancing led by instructors. It was the ideal mix of fun, laughter, and intimacy, reflecting the couple’s personalities.
“The vibe was all about love, warmth, and gratitude, which is exactly
what our relationship is built on. It wasn’t just a wedding; it was a
celebration of the people and moments that made us who we are.”, shares Jasmin.
Denmark and Jasmin’s wedding was more than just a celebration of their union—it was a tribute to their journey, their shared quirks, and the love and support of the people who helped shape their story.
