Last July 22, 2019, President Rodrigo Duterte delivered his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA). All eyes were on the red carpet of the halls of the Batasan Pambansa as the country’s leaders, lawmakers, and their guests showcased the best of Philippine creative talent through textiles and treatments. Ladies paraded in traditional as well as modern interpretations of the Filipiniana with everything from rich jewel-toned fabrics to intricate needlework.

It has been a yearly tradition to watch out for the best-dressed attendees and this year was no exception. Although styles have become more understated this past couple of years, there was no shortage of elegant looks to pull from especially for brides who want to highlight their Filipino roots either through modernizing classic silhouettes of the national dress or wearing jewelry with Filipino iconography. Check out the best bridal Filipiniana looks WE gathered from the recently concluded SONA below:

Leading the pack is Congresswoman Len Alonte who wore a pristine white, floor-length Michael Leyva terno accessorized with a rainbow clutch.

Also wearing Michael Leyva was Senator Sonny Angara’s wife, Tootsy Angara in a modern Filipiniana pencil cut dress with cloud-like sleeves made from piña silk.

Emmeline Aglipay-Villar was on trend wearing a sleek two-piece silk gazar terno with sleeves embellished with organdy flowers by JC Buendia.

Ciara Sotto went for soft and feminine in her modern terno with lace appliques and just the right amount of crystals from designer, Patricia Santos.

Aiko Melendez wore a simple yet stylized ‘Balintawak’ that hugged the body in eggshell white embellished with sheer fabric flowers and crystals by Edwin Tan.

Yaneen Alvarez, the wife of Representative Franz Alvarez of Palawan, literally made waves in her cocktail-length terno with wave-like patterns by Rajo Laurel.

Shiela Romero, wife of Representative Mikee Romero was elegant in her delicately embroidered off-the-shoulder ecru dress tied at the waist with a sash by designer Francis Libiran.

Senator Nancy Binay scored a major hit in her classic terno with intricate callado embroidery in baroque scroll motifs by Randy Ortiz.

Rounding up our list is first time attendee, Joy Sotto who could sit for a classic portrait in her modern Maria Clara with fine draped details and simple embroidery by Jot Losa.
