Let’s kick off the diamond month of April with a truly unforgettable sparkler. Blake Lively, better known as Serena van der Woodsen from the hit CW series, Gossip Girl lived up to her fashionista persona when she was presented with a unique engagement ring by Ryan Reynolds that’s still referenced and widely copied until today.
The notoriously private couple who started dating in 2011 never actually confirmed their relationship in public. There were no social media posts confirming their engagement, no photos of the ring but on September 9, 2012, they surprised everyone with a secret wedding at Mount Pleasant South Carolina after only a year of dating. A day later, paparazzi shots of the couple revealed a massive diamond ring that was just too brilliant to hide.

According to reports, the actor worked closely with friend and celebrity jeweler Lorraine Schwartz to design the perfect ring for Blake’s slender fingers. Together, they came up with an Art Deco-inspired ring featuring a 12-carat flawless, light pink oval diamond set in rose gold. The large center stone, held by four delicate prongs is further enhanced by a slim pave band setting a huge bridal trend into motion with brides like Hailey Baldwin and Julianne Hough sporting similar designs.

Reportedly valued at $2 million, the actress is rarely seen without her massive ring which she often mixes with bold statement cocktails rings as well as dainty stack bands at various events and appearances.

The visually impressive ring with its very rare center stone has become a favorite of brides-to-be sparking countless Pinterest posts and jewelry houses coming up with inspired settings. The use of rose gold with its warm pink tint in the ring’s slim design is a hit because of its delicately feminine appeal.

The ever-popular solitaire, round cut diamond suddenly has an elongated rival with the rising popularity of the oval cut thanks to Blake’s trendsetting ring. An oval diamond with the same carat weight as a brilliant, round solitaire one appears bigger appealing to a new generation of brides.

In a statement given by Blake to British Vogue in 2015, she shares “My most treasured possession is my engagement ring made by my dear friend Lorraine Schwartz because of the love and meaning it symbolizes.” She further adds, “I didn’t have any hand in its design – I married a gentleman.”
