Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez’s surprise engagement announcement broke the Internet last Sunday, March 10. The power couple posted a photo on their Instagram pages showing two hands holding and a hard-to-miss diamond sparkler with a caption that says, “She said yes”.

The couple was on a romantic Bahamas getaway when the proposal took place on March 9th. The multi-talented superstar later shared more snaps of the exact moment the former Major League Baseball star got down on one knee to present her with the now much-buzzed about engagement ring.

With no concrete information about the ring, diamond experts were invited to weigh in on its size and value. The massive stone was estimated to be somewhere between 10 to 15 carats and worth in the range of $1 to $5 million.
People Magazine later reported that the flawless emerald-cut diamond is a 16-carat dazzler valued at a little over $1.75 million.
According to Greg Kwiat, CEO of Leighton Jewels, “The emerald cut has a regal style and projects a high degree of confidence. Because emerald cuts are not faceted to be as sparkly as round diamonds and other shapes, it often appeals to a self-assured woman who celebrates understated elegance”. Rodriguez might have had the same idea in mind when he picked the style for the superstar.

Lopez’s well-publicized romantic past has associated her with some of the World’s most famous engagement rings. Ben Affleck famously presented her with a 6.1-carat pink diamond engagement worth an estimated $2.5 million that sparked a trend for colored stones while ex-husband Marc Anthony proposed with an 8.5-carat blue diamond ring from Harry Winston as well estimated to be worth a whopping $4 million.
Lopez’s new ring could spark another trend in engagement ring design. It’s a style that brings to mind elegant women like Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Grace of Monaco and Amal Clooney who have sported similar stunning settings.
