One of the best parts about finally finding your soulmate is you get to take each other’s hand and see the world together. For soon-to-be bride Jamie Diago, Africa has earned a special place in her heart with its people and rich culture, so they chose to do their prenup shoot in Kenya (Jamie’s travel tip: Try the Nyama Choma in Kenya!). Since Jamie’s other half, Ryan Yapkianwee hasn’t been to Africa, they decided to make an epic safari trip out of it.
“We picked the places with the best scenery and we wanted to go to one of the best safaris. That’s why we ended up in Maasai Mara, which was really tough to get to but definitely worth the travel.”
The couple went on a 7-hour drive from Nairobi to Maasai Mara where their first stop was the Maasai Village.
“We wanted to meet the tribes and immerse ourselves in the culture, so we took a stop in one of the villages. We had so much fun with the Maasai tribes, they were very friendly and welcomed us with open arms. They even performed a local dance to bless our marriage!”
“Another highlight of our trip was the camp we stayed in called Mara Engai Wilderness Lodge that sat on top of the mountain overlooking the savannah and had an amazing view of Maasai Mara. We are very thankful to the people of Mara Engai Wilderness Lodge for allowing us to shoot around the camp and for providing us transportation to go around and shoot in the Reserve.”
“Lastly, We went to Hell’s Gate National Park. This was the inspiration for the movie The Lion King. It had very unique and distinct rock formations that are perfect for pictures.”
If you’re wondering what it’s like to do a prenup shoot in Africa, Jamie shares that it’s the best way to take a break from all the wedding planning and bond with your wedding glam team and photographers (it was actually Pat Dy‘s idea to do the shoot in Africa) at the same time. The shred of sacrifice you have to make, though, is waking up really early at 3 am or 4 am to get glammed up and make sure everything’s on schedule.
