Makeup artist Rick Calderon is on a handful of celebrities’ speed dial, probably because he has perfected the barely-there makeup look that has become his signature ‘fresh look, fresh finish’ makeup.
His aesthetic is not about painting a new face on his clients. Rather than changing his clients’ whole look, he enhances their beauty and just corrects what needs to be corrected.
“My clients say that they dont look different, they just look enhanced, in a major but subtle way. “
Rick admits that doing bridal makeup comes with a bit more pressure because it’s a very special day for the client. So he makes sure to talk to the bride regarding the look they will do on the big day, which they will decide on together. There definitely shouldn’t be experiments or surprises for the bride when it comes to her look on the day itself!
But what makes Rick an even more formidable name in the industry is how he could transform his brides from wearing a daytime glow to a more dramatic second look for the reception by swiping on a bold lip with the bride still looking fresh–meaning the makeup doesn’t look heavy, cakey, and overwhelming at all.
Rick’s tips for brides to get that extra glow on their wedding day are:
- Please do visit your dermatologist a week or atleast 3 days before your big day, don’t do it the day before your wedding!
- Let the coordinator and relatives handle the stress, so make sure you get a lot of sleep.
- Skin prep is the key when it comes to bridal make up, this will give you “make up ready” skin before applying the make up itself.
