Micro-weddings vs. big celebrations: Which is right for your big day?

Weddings have come a long way in recent years, with couples having more freedom than ever before to personalize every aspect of their big day. One of the greatest decisions being made today is between a micro-wedding and a large, traditional one. Every option has its own set of pros and possible cons.

In the Philippines, micro-weddings are considered to generally host 10 to 50 guests, and value intimacy and intention. As they have fewer guests to host, there is a tendency for couples to reallocate their budget on important details like food and beverage, tailored venues and a longer celebration spanning multiple days.

Micro-weddings make it possible to connect more deeply with every guest, to manage stress levels and enjoy the location flexibility; think private villas, mountaintops or destination venues. They’re particularly appealing to couples who prioritize experiences over pageantry.

But big weddings also offer energy, tradition and the joy of a public celebration. With guest lists that swell anywhere from 100 to even a thousand for some who can splurge on their big day. They can be quite grand and lively.

Big weddings allow couples to invite everyone they please, or, rather: extended family, co-workers and longtime friends, and make the day communal.

Large dance floors, beautifully decorated spaces and everything else can make for very memorable nights. But they are often more expensive and take longer to plan and organize with additional logistical complexity.

In the end, you just got to pick what’s most important to you. Are you imagining really deep talks and some calm times, or more of a crowded dance floor and lots of action?

They’re not better or worse than each other, just different. The best wedding for you will be one that really fits what you care about, what you can spend, and how you imagine feeling on that day.

WE tip: Choosing your wedding style can be tricky, so here are a few tips to help you out.
1. What can’t you live without? Is it making sure every guest has a great time, staying within your budget, or being able to pick any spot you want?
2. Think about how much stress you can handle. Bigger weddings often mean a lot more planning and things to organize.
3. Think about your wedding day ten years from now. What parts of it do you imagine cherishing the most?

And with that, happy wedding planning from all of us at WE!
