Celebrity couple Megan Young and Mikael Daez shared valuable wedding planning tips during their interview at Jpark Island Resort and Waterpark in Mactan, Cebu.
The resort, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary, hosted a two-day wedding expo at the Triton Grand Ballroom, where media, suppliers, sponsors, couples, and owners gathered to gain insights and inspiration.
One of the essential pieces of advice given by the couple is the importance of effective communication and trust with suppliers. According to Mikael, it is crucial to maintain open lines of communication, limit design choices to two or three options, and allow the suppliers to showcase their expertise.
“I guess our message to the suppliers is that please come to us with two or three choices and we will just pick what we want,” Mikael said. “Bonez and I don’t have a problem because my default mode at that time is kung ano ang gusto ni asawa ‘yon ang masusunod,” he added.
When asked by the host, how did they choose their vendors? Megan replied, “We worked with people with whom we have a long-standing relationship.” The Miss World 2013 also highlighted the significance of small gestures in building strong relationships with suppliers. Simple greetings like “hi,” “hello,” and “how are you?” can make a big difference in connecting with suppliers and alleviating the pressure of wedding preparations.
The couple stressed the need to let go of the pursuit of perfection, as it often leads to unnecessary complications. They advised couples to remember that the essence of a wedding lies in celebrating their love with their loved ones, rather than striving for a flawless event.
“Go with the flow and enjoy every moment of the wedding process. At the end of the day, the wedding is between you and your partner, and that’s the most important,” the beauty queen shared.
Another important lesson Megan and Mikael provided was to stick to a budget. They warned against being swayed by social media distractions and encouraged couples to focus on what is financially realistic for them. “Try not to be blinded by social media, na dapat ganito ka bongga. Stick to the budget and spend on what you have,” Megan shared.
During the last part of the Q&A, the host asked about their wedding’s “no kids” rule. And the lovebirds replied that they wanted their adult pals to completely enjoy the event and that there were no excuses not to party.
As a final note, Mikael shared his insights on what love is. “Imagine yourself as an individual with a circle. When you have someone, you bring that other circle into yourself. Bringing someone into your life requires constant pressure to expand because you naturally want to go back to your normal shape. The constant pressure every day is deciding, I will fight, and I will choose to grow for my wife,” Mikael said.
