The engagement of Karljohn Billan & Princess Paisley Tan

In the heart of every celebration lies a story of love, resilience, and family, and for Karljohn and Princess, their tinghun, became exactly that.

Despite having only twelve days to prepare, Princess poured her creativity and heart into blending tradition with her own personal touch, crafting a moment that reflected not just their love story, but also the beauty of honoring heritage in a modern world.

“What felt most me was creating my own dress for the tinghun,” Princess shared. “Even with less than two weeks to prepare, I poured myself into the process…grabbing a pencil, sketching the first design that came to mind, and trusting my instincts.”

The result was a gown in soft champagne tones, delicately embroidered with gold and ivory florals; modern yet timeless, elegant yet deeply symbolic.

Designing it herself became more than a fashion choice; it was an act of self-expression and homage. “It wasn’t simply about what I wore,” she said, “but about weaving my personal story into a moment deeply rooted in tradition.”

To honor her late ama, Princess chose a joyful shade of blue in place of the customary red, a meaningful gesture symbolizing serenity and new beginnings. The couple’s day, guided by tradition yet filled with personal meaning, was a perfect reflection of balance: sensitivity to culture intertwined with individuality.

For Princess, the essence of prosperity wasn’t in lavish displays or grand dishes, but in unity.

“Prosperity is not only about wealth,” she reflected. “It’s about harmony, togetherness, and creating memories that will last for generations.”

Their engagement became more than a milestone, it was a testament to faith, family, and love that endures through time and change.

“The true gift of the tinghun,” Princess said, “is not just the ceremony, but the strengthened bonds it creates.”
