At the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, the Philippines, makes a remarkable statement of culture and creativity through its theme, “Nature, Culture, & Community: Woven Together for a Better Future” , a tribute to the country’s rich heritage and interconnectedness.

Representing this spirit through fashion is celebrated designer Michael Leyva, whose all-white collection, “Perlas ng Silanganan,” graced the Philippine Pavilion with elegance, depth, and national pride.

Leyva’s pieces reimagined traditional Filipino attire through a modern lens. Using native textiles such as piña, callado, and inabel, he merged heritage with innovation, staying true to the Expo’s global vision of cultural evolution. From restructured ternos to his standout look—a cropped barong matched with a hand-beaded inabel skirt—each piece honored the country’s artistry while embracing modern silhouettes.

“This was a true honor,” Leyva shared. “To represent the Philippines on a global stage like the Osaka Expo is both humbling and empowering.”

The collection’s beauty went beyond fabric and form. It served as a proud statement on the global stage—highlighting Filipino weaving traditions and the artistry of local communities. The participation of the Philippines, supported by the Office of the President and the First Lady, emphasized the nation’s commitment to spotlighting local talent and culture.

Their presence at the pavilion reminded everyone that fashion is more than aesthetics—it is storytelling, legacy, and a celebration of identity. Through “Perlas ng Silanganan,” Leyva wove a narrative of Filipino resilience, elegance, and creative pride—an exquisite offering to the world.
