Featuring Frank Crespo and Nina Reyes
Frank and Nina’s love story began as a friendship between two fifteen-year-olds navigating the social scene of Moreau Catholic High School in 2000. It all started with AOL chats and Nokia texts, blossoming into endless conversations about everything and anything. From Sadie Hawkins dances and meetups at Southland Mall to house parties that didn’t quite go as planned and aimless car rides, their friendship grew stronger over time.
After high school, life took them in different directions as they set out to explore the world and discover their passions. Despite being in different countries and pursuing different careers, they remained close friends for over a decade. Whether it was meeting up in England, adventuring in Amsterdam, or catching up at their favorite restaurant, La Pinata, they effortlessly picked up where they left off each time they saw each other.
In 2018, their lives converged once more. Frank began PA school at UC Davis, while Nina started anew in Oakland. After a long period apart, they met for Ethiopian food, and it was as if no time had passed. Their friendship naturally evolved into a deep love and respect for each other, grounded in shared values, dreams, and ambitions. Frank and Nina realized they wanted to pursue a meaningful life together as both best friends and partners.
Their relationship was solidified during a 2020 “van life” trip across the United States. Living in a van for three weeks, they traveled through ten states, explored nine national parks, and visited friends along the way. This adventure proved they could navigate life’s challenges together, and they knew they were meant for one another.
Frank’s proposal was a series of delightful surprises. Under the guise of attending a “secret garden party,” one of Nina’s best friends led her to a park, where they hiked until they turned a corner to find Frank standing in a floral aisle. Nina’s sisters, friends, and photographers were hidden nearby to capture the moment. The surprises didn’t end there. Back at their apartment, their parents and Frank’s daughter greeted them with champagne, leading to an impromptu engagement party on the rooftop, where over fifty loved ones had gathered to celebrate.
Their wedding in the Philippines was a vibrant celebration of Filipino culture, with guests treated to traditional dances, local delicacies, and a three-day island experience. With every detail reflecting their unique journey and heritage, Frank and Nina’s wedding was a heartfelt tribute to their love story and the community that shaped them.
