Featuring Renz Emmanuel C. Raquion and Daryn Joy O. Go

Their Journey Together

Renz and Joy’s friendship began in 2017 when they served together in the Youth Ministry at their church. During the pandemic, Renz became involved in the online prayer ministry of the Christian Bible Church of the Philippines (CBCP), and he invited Joy to join. This invitation marked the start of a deeper connection between them.

As their conversations grew, Renz became intentional about getting to know Joy better. They chatted frequently on Telegram, and on June 26, 2020, Renz confessed his feelings to Joy. He shared that he had been praying about her, asking God if she was the one he was meant to be with, and expressed his desire for a future together in full-time ministry, hoping she would become a pastor’s wife.

Joy, after prayerful consideration, accepted Renz’s invitation to explore a relationship. With her parents’ blessing, Renz pursued Joy, and they began dating. Since they were still in lockdown, their early dates were often virtual. They cherished deep conversations, discussing everything from values to priorities and character, which helped them understand each other better.

Their first in-person date was on Valentine’s Day 2021. They celebrated with lunch at BGC, enjoyed Italian food, hunted for coffee at % Arabica, and talked for hours. Meeting in person felt surreal but joyful after so long apart.

Renz and Joy’s relationship was centered on creating a safe, welcoming space for their community, embodying the love and grace of Jesus Christ. They wanted their relationship to reflect their shared values and faith.

The Proposal

The decision to get engaged was made with much prayer and discernment. They discussed it with their parents, church leaders, and friends, ensuring their paths and values aligned. Confident in their shared vision for life and marriage, Renz prepared to propose.

On September 18, 2022, after church, they visited their favorite restaurant and spent time together in Legaspi Village. Renz had arranged a family dinner at Joy’s house, using this as the setting for his proposal. While their families prepared the venue, Renz and Joy enjoyed their day together. Once everything was ready, they headed to Joy’s house.

Upon arrival, Joy noticed an LED sign in the living room and initially thought her dad was re-proposing to her mom. Renz took her hand, spoke heartfelt words, and knelt to propose. Joy joyfully said yes! Their families, who were secretly watching, joined in the celebration, making it a memorable occasion.

The Big Day

Their wedding was a significant event for both families, who were experiencing such a celebration for the first time. Renz and Joy envisioned a small, intimate ceremony, inviting only those who had walked closely with them. The day was blessed with prayers, especially when the sky began to cloud over.

Joy’s grandmother was their “Flower Granny,” a touching moment as she navigated down the aisle on her scooter, symbolizing God’s favor.

Close friends and siblings hosted the ceremony, maintaining a warm, relaxed atmosphere. The food, catered by K by Cunanan, included carefully selected vegan dishes, with a coffee cart, of course!

Instead of a traditional first dance, their guests serenaded them with “Can’t Help Falling in Love” as they entered the hall. This allowed Renz and Joy to savor the moment and connect with everyone present.

The theme, “sunset haze,” featured minimalist details with blooms and greenery. The reception hall had softly draped ceilings, light bulbs, arched wall panels, and clusters of muted flowers and lit candles. They chose a simple, geometrically shaped cake, and the bridesmaids wore muted terracotta, blush, and champagne dresses while the groomsmen donned beige suits. Renz wore a light tan suit.

Their wedding Bible served as a guest book, with attendees highlighting passages and leaving notes. Each guest received a personalized watercolor painting as a keepsake, and Joy designed custom fans that doubled as lyric sheets and programs.

Prayer and conversation were central themes, beginning and ending the day in prayer. Games encouraged guests to share advice, memories, and to celebrate those who had been significant in Renz and Joy’s lives.

Each guest received a handwritten note, reflecting the couple’s love for letters. Renz and Joy cherished these moments and the presence of loved ones. They prepared umbrellas for rain, but thankfully, they weren’t needed. The couple was grateful for the support and prayers of their suppliers, who went above and beyond to make the day special.

Surrounded by people they loved, Renz and Joy felt blessed by the gift of presence and conversation, marking the beginning of their journey together with joy and gratitude.
