Planning anything is always a challenge, especially when you want the celebrant to be surprised and happy about what you’ve prepared behind her back. The same goes with planning a bridal shower.
The bride-to-be Muriel Orais, Miss Earth Philippines—Water 2011 and currently working as a flight stewardess, hinted to her cousin Madelle that she wanted a Victoria’s Secret theme which they eventually called Victoria’s Sycret. Together with Denice Sy-Munez, the two got to work.
The fiancé Herson Sy helped with the planning as well. He created a group chat over on Facebook messenger. “Introducing the entourage and close friends from Muriel’s different group of friends as early as July 2021,” shares Denice.
With all the lockdowns and different alert levels, their plans kept changing—from Siargao, Boracay, to Bohol. “We eventually settled with a Cebu-based bachelorette instead, which is Muriel’s hometown,” adds Denice. Herson pitched in by helping convince the bride-to-be to block off the date, informing her that he had planned something for the two of them that day. He also booked her and the other Manila-based girls to fly to Cebu.
Held in Radisson Blu in Cebu on February 6, they were able to book the presidential suite and commissioned local suppliers to work on the venue. And, yes, it was a successful surprise as two of her friends, Celina Pastor and Chloe Manuel, picked her up from the airport right after work (she just landed in Manila) and had her changed into a white bridal shower dress. The three took another flight back to Cebu.
Other Cebu-based friends, Angeli and Leanne, welcomed the girls as soon as they arrived in Cebu. Stalling while the other group of friends were busy setting up the venue. Muriel thought they would be barhopping that night, but was surprised to find out that they will be spending the night in the presidential suite with friends from all over the world, including her best friend Sheralyn who came from the UK.
All the guests had themselves tested with antigen test kits, and they also prepared fun props, food, drinks, and games that made it extra fun for all the attendees. The highlight of the props? Fuschia-dyed feathered wings for the bride-to-be, while the rest had white feathered wings.
The couple is set to get married twice on February 20 in the country and 26 in Phuket.
