Weddings are always a wonderful excuse to get all dolled up, not just for the bride, but for the family, the entourage, the godparents, and even all the guests. And now that Filipino-themed clothes are on trend, checking out the ladies who attended the recent State of the Nation Address 2021 has proven to be helpful in planning your next party outfits—be it formal or cocktail.

We’ve round up some of the best ones we could find, starting off with classic pieces to modern ones. There are so many to choose from and have fun with.

Senator Risa Hontiveros chose a classic piña knee-length dress with hand embroidery by Joel Acebuche. She noted that the weevers are from Aklan and artisans of Lumban.

Congresswoman Marlyn Alonte Naguiat showed up in classic terno with straight-cut pants and pleated waist detail. The cascading waves give this all-white number a delicate and feminine look. “My interpretation of a classic Filipina who is simple yet classy, someone who can represent the image of our nation to the world with grace and pride in being a Filipino,” designer Michael Leyva posted.

Senator Grace Poe is in a black-and-white ensemble, featuring a structured white terno top and A-line knee-length skirt. She added a long Van Cleef and Arpels necklace with matching dangling earrings.

Senator Imee Marcos also chose to wear pants, but this time, a bit more playful with vibrant red embroidery accents. She added more color with a cameo encased in gold tamborine/filigree pendant and fuschia slip-ons.

Department of Justice Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay Villar picked a full woven mid-calf terno dress in black and mauve hues by Ivar Aseron. This is definitely a modern and playful take to your classic terno.

Vice President Maria Leonor Gerona Robredo worked with designer Michael Leyva in creating this terno dress with layered billowy butterfly sleeves. The hemline of the sleeves have ethnic tribal accents. Our vice president also added a gold brooch to accentuate.

Another creation by Michael Levya. Senator Loren Legarda pairs her structured terno top with classic black pants. She kept her hair down for a more casual look.

Marga Nograles, wife of Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles and the woman behind Kaayo, shows us how it’s done. “I would have worn this Kaayo mixed print Inaul terno with Tboli hand beading and the perfect @riquezajewellery brooch. The orange INAUL weave, literally meaning woven, is handmade fabric with designs handed down from generation to generation. Its luxurious texture is a blend of silk and gold threads infused into the pure cotton threads and woven in complicated techniques by the Maguindanao weavers from South Cotabato. Watch me wear this dress over and over again in many ways.”

Congressman Sol Aragones wears a bustier terno dress in vibrant true red hue by Michael Leyva. We’re loving the pretty big bow that’s placed on the side of her first hips.

Congresswoman Princess Rihans chose to work with Jearsond Atelier. In their post, they talked about the heritage Barong, the Calado and free form hand embroidery. “Calado (or Callado) is a distinctive feature of our Barong Tagalog & Filipiniana dress ,This is a well known Lumban style of embroidery (Burdang Lumban) in which the fibers are pulled out from the fabric to reduce the fiber count and the remaining intact fibers are then stitched together into a variety of open thread work patterns. Calado creates intricacy and adds texture to the barong embellishments. It is also used to create depth to make a specific pattern or design element look prominent and defined.”
