#WERealWeddings featuring ANGELO PEREZ and ELY Y. PEREZ
To some people, an engagement could mean 10 years; while for some could be just a week-long wait. For me and my wife, it was a 2-year long engagement. “What could go wrong?” my fiancé asked. We did not know that we were in such a big surprise.
We only had 28 days left to decide back then whether to postpone or continue on with our wedding. Taal volcano erupted and spewed ashes and had greatly affected neighboring cities in Tagaytay. Our venue was located in Silang, Cavite which at that time was heavily bombarded with ash. Our hearts sank when our coordinator showed us pictures of the aftermath it did to our venue. We could not believe what we saw. We could only hope and pray that God would bless and guide us during our wedding as we had decided to continue on with our wedding.
February 9, 2020, our very special day came. It was the day I would marry my love of my life. You would find us crazy if we tell you that we are blessed to have a gloomy and rainy morning during our outdoor wedding. But to us, this was far better than having lava spewing out of Taal volcano. We prayed in the morning that God would give us a bright afternoon which He did however we were sad to hear that the garden reception was soaked in mud! An hour before the wedding, we decided to move our ceremony indoor.
At last! Around 4:00 PM our wedding was about to start. While I was waiting for the ceremony to begin, I had mixed emotions. I was nervous and a little disappointed because of our ceremony venue. I know my wife-to-be was disappointed too as we were both dreaming of a beautiful outdoor garden wedding. As the opening song began, I had a quick prayer with God and put all of my trust in Him. The doors opened; I saw how God managed to turn a bad situation into such a beautiful one because our indoor ceremony looked even better than the one prepared outside! I walked down the aisle, followed by the entourage then came the waiting game. We waited for the bride to come out. 1 minute felt like I waited for forever! Alas! The doors opened and I started crying! The roller coaster of emotions all busted into tears! The feeling was overwhelming! As I watched her walk down the aisle, I could not help but notice how extravagantly beautiful she was. We stood in front of the Lord and everything blacked out as we stared at each other’s eyes. During the time we were in front, I could not help but glance on everyone present during the ceremony. Those were the people who prayed that our ceremony would be at peace. We thanked God that everything went according to His plan from the venue, to the food, down to the people who helped us. Truly indeed he was in control.
Before my wife walk down the aisle, she was very anxious of how our wedding could turn out. She kept on asking our suppliers outside if everything was going smoothly. The videographer then spoke to my wife and said “Wala namang perfect na wedding eh. Ang importante, Ikaw at si Gelo ay ginawang perfect para sa isa’t isa ni God.” I realized that if God is in control, then you shouldn’t worry about anything.
