Pearls have been a fashion staple for centuries. Mughal rulers casually piled multi-stranded pearls with other precious gemstones in their everyday wear while the Elizabethans enthusiastically incorporated these lustrous little beads into their wardrobe and elaborate hairstyles. In the early 20th century, iconic fashion designer Coco Chanel championed the wearing of pearls elevating it to how it is viewed today – understated, elegant and chic.

Last April, fashion blogger Camille Co pulled off the latest bridal trend when she tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in Italy wearing a minimalist Lela Rose gown with an attention-grabbing headpiece. Camille wore not one, but two rows of pearl headbands by jewelry and accessories designer Keren Wolf, earning her praises for staying true to her fashionista persona and trying on something bold.

Givenchy followed suit as models strutted down the runway wearing giant pearl headbands with crystal accents. Gal Gadot wore the Givenchy headpiece to the MET Gala recently to complete her lace ensemble.

90’s Revival

Thanks to a revival of 90’s fashion we’re experiencing today, the once-humble barrettes and clips are given a new blingy spin with lots of sparkles and yes, pearls. Lelet NY, a New York-based luxury hair accessory brand offers a wide variety of pearl clips, pins, and combs.

Botticelli Muse

Sandro Botticelli, the Italian master painted hair in dramatic detail. His subjects often had wavy windswept hair decorated with twigs, flowers and you guessed it, pearls. Channel your inner Boticelli muse with pearl embellished bobby pins like the ones from Jennifer Behr and look like you’ve just emerged from the sea.

Modern Minimalism

If you want to try the pearl hair trend but are afraid to look too trendy then still make a statement with a beautiful chignon fastened with a statement pearl accessory or try a half up, half down hairstyle secured with floating pearls for a light and ultra-feminine bridal look. We’re taking our cue from Moscow-based airstylist Viola Pyak!
