A bride’s wedding trousseau includes everything from her intimate apparel to her actual wedding gown and one of the easiest garments to procure is the dressing robe, which typically just comes in one silhouette with only a variation in length and fabric selection. Unlike undergarments which shape the body according to the cut of the dress, dressing robes provide a modest and stylish cover up for brides and their bridesmaids during the pre-wedding preparations which include sitting down for hair and makeup as well as posing for pictorials.
Back in the day when options were limited, brides would just purchase their robes at lingerie boutiques, department stores, or have their seamstresses customize it for them. Nowadays, with a newly revitalized local wedding market – an influx of artisans and entrepreneurs are carving a niche in the wedding industry by having all bases covered. A good number of local designers have ventured into customizing dressing robes by elevating their designs through fabrics, trims, and embellishments utilizing the power of social media and convenient online shopping and delivery to market their goods.
Heading the pack is the multi-faceted designer Happy Andrada, who recently launched her limited edition bridal robes in exquisite lace and sweeping silks some with a nod to the Japanese kimono with obi-like belts secured with crystal brooches.
