Bridal Beauty: Jake Galvez Tells Us the Secrets to Achieving Bridal Glow

Celebrity makeup artist and beauty columnist Jake Galvez is every chinita bride’s go-to makeup artist for their big day, probably because Kim Chiu is one of his many celebrity muses. Because of this, he has mastered how to give life to the eyes of his clients without piling on too much product that would make the eyes disappear: with defined eyeliner and full, natural-looking lashes.

“The eyes are the windows to the soul” and I believe in making them stand out! The eyes are the first thing we usually look at, and they are my favorite thing to highlight and focus on. I play with different kinds of smokey, generally with Gold and Bronze which compliments any skin tone and eye color.

“Celebrity makeup is a bit heavier and bolder than bridal makeup, which is mostly light and fresh. However, modern brides nowadays are becoming more experimental with their looks. Which makes my work more exciting!”

Jake also makes sure that he sits down with the bride months before the wedding to have a “beauty talk on skincare care recommendations the bride could start on ASAP.

“Don’t just rely on your makeup artist to achieve that ‘bridal glow’. Have yourself a good skin care routine you can stick to. If you don’t have one, then now is the time to start one.”

  1. Find products that suit your skin type, and use these products at least 3-6 months before your wedding day. I recommend including La Mer’s Renewal Oil in your routine, this amazing product will make your skin soft and ultra-smooth. So on your big day, your skin will surely be glowing from within without much makeup.
  2. Don’t tweeze or wax your brows the day before your wedding. You may run the risk of swelling in your eye area, so do it at least a week before the big day. If this is a last-minute errand you forgot to run, let your makeup artist shave it instead.
  3. Rub an ice cube on your face before applying makeup, it’ll make your makeup last longer!
  4. Use a jade roller to depuff your face! It’s one of my favorite beauty tools to use with primers and facial moisturizers. Put the jade roller in the fridge before you use it for best results.
