If you think working with the bride takes up most of a designer’s time, imagine working with an entire entourage! Designer Martin Bautista has become the go-to designer for entourage dresses, known for his sexy, feminine aesthetic that he could tailor-fit to any body type. The designer shares to us the wonders of creating a dress for every kind of woman.
“Make me look thin!”– is a phrase you’ll hear over and over again in ateliers filled with a giggling group of girls who are taking turns to talk to the designer. Martin’s advice?
“There is always a solution for all kinds of concerns, that’s our job as designers. My advise is to know what you’re comfortable to show and hide. “
What is your designer-bride dynamic? How do you both agree on the theme you’re going for the whole entourage?
“I always ask the bride for the kind of vibe and attitude she is going for and how she’s envisioning the entourage to look. Then I give my input, suggest fabric options, the color story, silhouettes etc.”
How is the experience of designing the dresses for the whole entourage? How do you tailor-fit each one to their personalities?
“You just simply have to commit by making sure each girl is given a design that’s flattering for whatever their body type is, personality, etc. But still remaining in sync with the theme of the wedding.”
Can you tell us the best (and worst) parts of working with the entourage?
“The only worst part about it is that I’m really bad with names and faces, and I work with a lot of girls in eevery wedding. So I really get shy and embarrassed whenever I have to ask for the girls’ names when I see them.”
“The best part is getting to know different personalities, and I really appreciate how the girls have each others’ back. They come to fittings, help each other get dressed, take photos, give compliments, it’s a really fun, cheerful and happy atmosphere.”
