The heavy downpour did not dampen the festive mood at The Manila Peninsula Hotel last June 9th, 2018 as they played host to a bridal fair entitled: Weddings at the Peninsula. Guests and brides-to-be flocked to one of the country’s most sought after wedding reception venues to find the industry’s best suppliers who offered everything from bespoke footwear to luxury honeymoon destinations.

The highlight of the evening was a dazzling fashion show held at the romantic lobby of the iconic hotel featuring five of the most talented designers in the country namely: Mark Bumgarner, Michael Leyva, Jojie Lloren, Joey Samson and Mak Tumang.

The show started with the creations of Mak Tumang, a young and talented Pampanga based designer who has been making a name for himself by creating heavily embellished pieces that are both intricate and imaginative. His creations for the show were gowns of manipulated fabric that mimic floral blooms with hints of blush that swayed gently as the models moved. He used accents of Swarovski crystals and delicate feathers to add more drama to his very feminine collection.

Celebrity favorite – Michael Leyva created show-stopping pieces fit for a glamorous bride who isn’t afraid to shine on her big day. His bridalwear collection included form fitting embellished dresses to romantic ball gowns that glimmer. The piece de resistance that evening was a pristine white gown that had a spectacular train fully beaded with crystals in tiny geometric patterns.

Mark Bumgarner, an industry favorite with his modern takes on the classics made dreamy pieces perfect for the more traditional brides. His impeccable construction skills were in full view with pieces bearing his signature princess silhouette. He used classic bridal fabrics such as lace and tulle to create light and airy pieces with a ballerina flair.  He also used silks for his more fashion forward column gown featuring another of his signature – a stylized bow. His embroidered elements were a variety of linear and vine patterns that are subtle, but still gave a hint of sparkle to the garments.

Joey Samson, a veteran Filipino designer lauded for his impeccable tailoring embraced individuality by showcasing a collection with a variety of styles, shapes and lengths for the more unconventional brides. He introduced colors and prints, which gave his pieces versatility and a more relaxed feel. His contemporary pieces included a gorgeously tailored jumpsuit with dangerously low neckline, pastel colored dresses, a minimalist A-line gown and a printed strapless dress perfect for a Tuscan wedding or a white sand beach ceremony.

The last designer to present his work was Jojie Lloren, one of the most respected names in Philippine fashion. Mr. Lloren took his inspiration from classic movies and music and came up with a highly photogenic collection. He showcased Filipiniana styles in more modern cuts as well as one of the favorite looks of the night – a voluminous blouse and trouser ensemble styled with a vintage hat that evoked images of Audrey Hepburn.

The successful show gave brides in the audience a glimpse of how they might want to look like on their big day. They had a full array of styles to choose from whether they want to channel their inner Grace Kelly or Bianca Jagger on their wedding day. Bridal fairs and fashion shows give them an opportunity to explore their ideas and bring them closer to the people who can make it happen for them.  In the end, even though it was a rainy evening, it was a well spent one surrounded by beauty, talent and all things that make the union of two loving individuals truly magical.
