Undying Classics

Something old, something new, and something blue. Let’s start with something old. What pops into your mind first? The dress! And it probably has puffy sleeves, a ridiculous amount of lace, and probably drowning in tulle. It might even be sparsely decorated with plastic pearls–GASP!

But alas, here are the world’s style icons that prove to us today that the word classic never goes out of style, no matter how many decades of fashion has passed. And when it comes to weddings, yesterday’s classic remains today’s trends.

Let’s take a look, shall we?

Audrey Hepburn’s tea-length wedding dress from the movie ‘Funny Face’. Today, we find the same endearing calf-length dresses from Mark Bumgarner’s collection for Marry Me at Marriott.

Wallis Simpson’s dress when she married Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne in 1936 for the love of his life, saying: “But you must believe me when I tell you that I have found it impossible to carry the heavy burden of responsibility and to discharge my duties as King as I would wish to do without the help and support of the woman I love.” Today, we see this forever classic piece in Patty Ang’s Bridal 2018 collection.

Bianca Jagger wore a pantsuit on her wedding, just when you thought that Sarah Jessica Parker started the whole vintage blazer+skirt trend from the Sex and the City movie. Today, we find a lot of edgy blazers paired with ball skirts by designers like Tony Evan and Happy Andrada.

Maria Montez, an actress from Dominican Republic dubbed as the ‘Queen of Technicolor’, embellished her dress in numerous pompoms. Designer Michael Leyva created his own version with fluffy pompoms decorating the tail of the mermaid-cut dress.

Actress Sandra Dee wore separates to her wedding, much like the pieces found in Avel Bacudio’s 2017 bridal collection. Who knew wearing separates on your wedding day could look this lovely? The magic touch is all in how the skirt cascades down to the floor.
